Blackjack Laid Bare

Blackjack which is also sometimes known as 21 is considered to be one of the most played card games in casinos all across the entire world. There are many variations of how to play it, and it is said that this is reflected in the fact that there are no limits on the number of 52 card decks you can use.

To begin with, a player must draw two cards from the deck. The aim of the game is to then bring the total value of your cards as close to 21 as possible without going bust. Going bust in this sense would mean that a player has exceeded a total card value of 21 and the house would automatically win. The true objective of the game if faced with a situation in which it is unlikely you will receive 21 or blackjack is to force the house into getting a lower card value than you or go bust by exceeding 21.

As mentioned, blackjack is an original game from which stems numerous variations with their own individual rules and table etiquette, in this sense it draws much likeness to religion.

The reason behind Blackjack's vast popularity is fairly simple, the use of common everyday skills makes this game a favourite among many as you don't have to be super rich or super smart to win big money. Blackjack requires luck and good decision making, it is the only game in which the way a player carries himself and examines a thoroughly thought out strategy can see them win big money.

As a Spanish National, I'm always delighted when I come across pieces of information regarding my country and its people that I wasn't originally aware of. While searching for information for this article, I was astonished and pleased to discover that one of blackjack's earliest ever references, was found in a book called Novelas Ejemplares by Miguel de Cervantes who is most famously known for his novel Don Quixote.

Unfortunately, unlike in Spain, France and Great Britain when blackjack arrived in the USA, it was not as well-liked as many expected. Casinos had to come up with various bonus payouts and quickly, before a player would even consider playing this new unpopular game.

This is when the story of blackjack truly began. Casinos had come up with a bonus payout that would see a player winning ten times what they bet if the cards they held in their hand was an ace of spades and one of the black jacks. This hand became known as blackjack and as a consequence the name stuck for the game in general, even after the payout was abolished by the gaming association.

For a game to be considered a game it must follow a set of basic rules and strategies, this is no different in blackjack. Depending upon the card value the player holds and what the player can see of the dealer's cards, a decision is made by the player as to what cause of action he or she must take to ensure their victory over the dealer.

With different strategies, come different actions to be followed and taken. In blackjack as the number of decks used in a game increases, the player's chances of winning decrease. This is because with more cards available the chances of getting a blackjack or 21 are greatly decreases.

For many decades now, blackjack has been targeted in casinos because of the ease in which a player can gain and advantage over the house. This is achieved by the honest use of skills such as memory, calculation and observation. Which while entirely legal skills to use, they are viewed as giving players a long term edge over the game. This is greatly frowned upon by casinos and usually leads to a player being blacklisting and ejected if they are caught using such skills for their own personal gain.
